TOWING (These are suggestion only, for further
assistance contact the product manufacturer)
Q. What type of vehicle will I need to tow a
caravan or camper trailer? A. The type of vehicle required for towing, depends on the size
and weight of the caravan to be towed. Our sales staff will advise you on the
suitability of your vehicle, when choosing your caravan or camper trailer.
Q. What do I need to know about towing? A. It is helpful but not essential to have prior
towing experience. Drivers without experience should take greater care when
manoeuvring the vehicle, and getting to know the different handling and
breaking characteristics. Towing courses are available from selected driving
schools in the Northern Territory.
Q. Do I need
to balance the load and therefore the weight distribution in my caravan when
towing? A. It is recommended that careful consideration be
given when packing your caravan. Spread your load evenly throughout the van,
packing heavy items down low as close to the centre of the caravan, which is
over the axel.
Q. When my
caravan is attached to my car, the back of the car drops significantly.
A. It is desirable to have
the caravan level when towing, and there are several options you may chose to
achieve this. You may need to fit torsion bars or ride levellers to the draw
bar of the caravan and then onto the car, available from our Spare Parts
Division. A "Super Hitch"
is a three way tow hitch, and as the name suggests, can be fitted to obtain
three different towing heights. Ask our Spare Parts staff to demonstrate the
"Super Hitch". There are several different systems available, which can be used
to adjust the height of the rear of your vehicle. You should speak with a
reputable suspension dealer for expert advice.
Q. Will I need to change my car's breaking system when towing
my camper trailer or caravan? A. An electric breaking system is required to be fitted to your
vehicle, to assist with breaking. There are many brands from which to choose.
Our friendly sales staff are happy to organize the purchase and fitting of an
electric breaking system to your vehicle, for your convenience
Q. Will I need to use towing mirrors?
A. Additional rear vision
mirrors must be used when towing a caravan or trailer which is wider than the
towing vehicle. Our Spare Parts department has a variety of mirrors to choose
from.
Q. I am interested in installing Reversing
Cameras. A. Reversing
cameras may be fitted to the car and/or caravan to help with reversing the
vehicle, and as a safety precaution. Ask our Spare Parts staff for further
information. They will organize the purchase and fitting of your reversing
camera.
Q. Do I need an "Anderson" plug"?
A. An Anderson plug
ensures your caravan or camper trailer's battery re- charges while travelling,
ensuring your refrigerator remains functional and there is power available in
the battery when required.
Q. My
refrigerator is not working as well as I think it should.
A. If you are experiencing
continuous hot weather, the refrigerator may be having trouble expelling the
hot air to the outside of the van. An auxiliary fan may resolve the problem.
Ask our helpful Spare Parts staff to show you our range of auxiliary fans. If
you continue to experience problems with your refrigerator after installing an
auxiliary fan, then you should refer your problem to the manufacturer.
